HMRC has published its latest advisory fuel rates, which come into effect for company car users from 1 March 2020.

Here is a summary of the changes since the last rates were published on 1 December 2019:

  • Rates for petrol engines of over 2000cc down by 1p to 20p per mile
  • Rates for diesel engines of over 2000cc down by 1p to 13p per mile
  • LPG rate for 1401cc to 2000cc engines up by 1p to 10p per mile
  • Rates for fully electric engines are unchanged at 4p per mile

Advisory Fuel Rates for Petrol and LPG

Engine size Petrol – amount per mile LPG – amount per mile
1400cc or less 12p 8p
1401cc to 2000cc 14p 10p
Over 2000cc 20p 14p

Advisory Fuel Rates for Diesel

Engine size Diesel – amount per mile
1600cc or less 9p
1601cc to 2000cc 11p
Over 2000cc 13p

Advisory Electricity Rate

The Advisory Electricity Rate for fully electric cars is 4p per mile.


The previous rates can be used for up to one month from the date the new rates apply. The next advisory fuel rate review will take place on 1 June 2020.
